Other important events or activities to be held during the Congress include the following:

Second EAS Youth Forum (22-26 November 2009)

The 2nd EAS Youth Forum (YF2) aims to provide a venue for youth of the EAS region to learn more about pressing issues in the marine and coastal environment, strengthen their role in addressing these issues, and provide some practical skills that can be applied at the community level. YF2 will carry the theme "Youth of the East Asian Seas Region and Climate Change", and will serve as a venue for promoting awareness and action on the potential impacts of climate change.

PEMSEA Network of Local Governments for Sustainable Coastal Development  (PNLG) Meeting

The PNLG Meeting aims to: provide a venue for mutual learning and mentoring among the PNLG members; facilitate the exchange of information and practical experiences, skills and management know-how on ICM; and promote networking of local government units with donors, the private sector, other relevant agencies and stakeholders.

Corporate Social Responsibility in the Sustainable Development of Manila Bay (25 November 2009)

The CSR event is designed to: provide the corporate sector with a gathering place to review and evaluate their contribution to the rehabilitation of Manila Bay; share experience and good practices in CSR; explore possible commitments to time-bound targets for sustainable development of Manila Bay; delineate partnership arrangements between local and national governments, the corporate sector, and other stakeholders in the sustainable development of Manila Bay.

Business Forum on Dealing with the Challenges of Climate Change (25 November 2009)

The International Conference offers various cross-cutting workshops that encourage the involvement of various stakeholders, including the business sector in addressing coastal and ocean environment issues. In particular, the workshops will provide information on good practices for companies responding to social and environmental issues in the 21st century. The culmination for the business sector will be a Business Forum focusing on "Business responses to Climate Change" (BF). The BF will engage business leaders in a dialogue sharing good practices/case studies in mitigating the risks of climate change, and adapting to the pending impacts of climate change, particularly in vulnerable coastal areas/communities. 

Workshop on Meeting Human Resource Requirements in Coastal and Ocean Governance: Formal and Informal Training (26 November 2009)

A follow-on workshop on the Discussion Group Meeting on the Assessment of East Asia’s Capacity Building in Oceans and Coastal Governance held in 2006, the workshop will focus on the recent initiatives undertaken related to capacity development in the region, including: 1) efforts to maximize regional intellectual capital towards coastal and ocean development; 2) formal and informal training initiatives; 3) contribution of regional and international initiatives in promoting capacity development; and 4) human resource requirements of the region and available services.

PEMSEA Partners’ Recognition and Awards Ceremony / Partnership Night (27 November 2009)

The event will be a celebration of partnership, collaboration and cooperation in support of sustainable development of the Seas of East Asia. The event will recognize the efforts made by participating Country and non-Country Partners, local governments, private sector, universities, Congress co-conveners, collaborators and sponsors with the objective of strengthening partnerships among countries and non-country entities for the implementation of the SDS-SEA.

Exhibition on Good Practices and Innovative Technologies (23-26 November 2009)

The EAS Congress exhibition provides a venue for displays of good practices and innovative technologies on coastal and ocean management as well as venue for interactive sessions of various Conference workshops, whereby selected exhibit displays will be utilized for presentations and interactive discussions.

Field Visits (27 November 2009)

The Philippine Government will arrange for field visits to some coastal communities/sites for all Congress participants. Details on the field trips will be released at a later date.
