About Manila
The City of Manila is a lively metropolis commanding a magnificent view of the world-famous Manila Bay and its golden sunset. This "Philippine Cosmopolitan Capital" blends regional cultures and flavors.
In the heart of Manila is the Walled City of Intramuros. Constructed in 1571, during the period of Spain's occupation of the Philippines, it is comprised of European-style buildings and churches. Inside the Walled City are the Manila Cathedral, the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Manila, and the San Agustin Church, the oldest stone church in Metro Manila and one of the four Philippine Baroque Churches inscribed in UNESCO's World Heritage List.
Manila is home to Malacañan Palace, the official residence of the country's chief executive and one of the most historic structures in the Philippines. The National Museum of the Philippines, the official repository of the nation's cultural, historical, and natural heritage, is also in the area.
Manila is geographically advantaged as it is an hour or two away from the provinces of Cavite, Batangas and Laguna and the island of Corregidor. These areas are replete with exceptionally beautiful beaches, stunning views, and local color. The weather is cooler in Manila between November and February. The City's hottest month is May, when the temperature averages 83ºF (28ºC). The rainy season is between June and October, although some precipitation is possible all through the year.
