Applications to Master of Marine Affairs Program and Scholarships Now Accepted

The Master of Marine Affairs (MMA) Program is an international postgraduate program initiated from 2007 in Xiamen University, which is one of the top and most beautiful universities in mainland China. The application to the MMA program now starts, and so do the Chinese Government Scholarship and Xiamen University Scholarship.

Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS)

  1. Application Deadline: January 1st, 2010
  2. The CGS provides:
    • Exemption from registration fees, tuition fees, laboratory experiment fees, internship fees, and costs of basic course materials and accommodation on campus;
    • Living allowance;
    • One-off settlement subsidy (provided following registration);
    • Out-patient medical services charges together with membership of the national Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China.
  3. Application Procedure:
    • Applicants should apply online at http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application
    • Application forms can be downloaded only after successful online registration. Applications will not be accepted without the online registration.
    • Application materials sent by post should reach the Admissions Office by the deadline.

Xiamen University Scholarship

  1. Application Deadline: April 15th, 2010
  2. The XMU Scholarship exempts the awardees from tuition fees.
  3. Application Procedure:
    • Candidates should apply online at http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application
    • Application forms can be downloaded only after successful online registration. Applications will not be accepted without the online registration.
    • Application materials sent by post should reach the Admissions Office by the deadline.

Master of Marine Affairs Program

The Master of Marine Affairs (MMA) Program is designed to study of the complex issues of coastal and ocean management and governance. This program aims to develop abilities in analyzing and solving management and policy problems at local, regional, national, and international levels. As an interdisciplinary postgraduate program, MMA has an excellent faculty team with professors in the fields of oceanography, environmental science, management science, environmental and resources economics, policy and law, public administration and others.

Entry requirements

  • Prospective students should have a non-Chinese passport and be in good health;
  • Academic requirements: Prospective students must hold a recognized bachelor's degree or above, or equivalent.
  • English proficiency: Minimum requirement of 550 points or above for TOEFL, a grade 6 or above for IELTS, or other certificate of English proficiency from an approved authority. Native English speakers are exempt from this requirement; other candidates whose university courses are taught in English will be considered on a case-to-case basis.
  • Professional backgrounds: Prospective students who are able to show relevant professional experience deemed appropriate to the program applied for will be given prior consideration.

  • Program duration: 2 years full-time study
  • Program commencement: Autumn semester
  • Teaching language: English
  • Tuition fee: 72,000 RMB in total; 36,000 RMB/per academic year
