The coastal City of Danang is one of Viet Nam's national economic growth centers. Deemed as the nucleus of the central region's dynamic economic development, the city's industrial, trading, tourism and service values have appreciated significantly in recent years. Along with the benefits derived from these developments, there also comes the responsibility of preserving the unique ecological features and mitigating the negative environmental impacts, particularly those associated with pollution, flooding and coastal inundation.
Recently the Danang people formulated a coastal strategy representing a shared vision among stakeholders in Danang, "where the cultural and historical values are preserved; where the Danang people are provided with maximum benefits while the ecological values are maintained; and where Danang shall spearhead Viet Nam and the Region towards sustainable development."
Storms present a challenge for the people of Danang
