NOWPAP in Action
NOWPAP shares some of the milestones it has achieved in the last quarter of 2007, including the conclusion of the 12th Intergovernmental Meeting participated in by partner organizations, the finalization of the NOWPAP Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter, and its contribution in the fight against the recent oil spill in the Republic of Korea.
2nd Workshop of the Yellow Sea Partnership hosted by NOWPAP
The Northwest Pacific Action Plan (NOWPAP) Regional Coordinating Unit (RCU) hosted and organized the second Workshop of the Yellow Sea Partnership (YSP) on 1 October in Busan, Republic of Korea.
NOWPAP partners joined hands in promoting International Coastal Cleanup
An International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) campaign was organized on 29 September in Busan, RO Korea, with kind sponsorship of the Korean Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries (MOMAF).
The First NEAR-GOOS–NOWPAP Joint Training Course on Remote Sensing Data Analysis
NOWPAP Special Monitoring and Coastal Environmental Assessment Regional Activity Centre (CEARAC) organized the first NEAR-GOOS--NOWPAP Joint Training Course on Remote Sensing Data Analysis at Nagasaki University, Japan on 3-7 September, jointly with the International Oceanographic Commission Regional Secretariat for the Western Pacific (IOC/WESTPAC).
2nd Global Conference on Large Marine Ecosystems
The 2nd Global Conference on Large Marine Ecosystems, to be held on 11–13 September at Qingdao, PR China, will focus on assessment and management methodologies for ecosystem-based approaches to the recovery and sustainability of marine resources, and methodologies for analyzing changing states of LMEs, and LMEs at risk from climate change. The Conference will also provide a unique opportunity to interact with young Chinese scientists and with Conference participants from countries of the Pacific Rim.
Call for Papers: The 2nd International WEPA Forum International Forum on Water Environmental Governance in Asia
The Water Environment Partnership in Asia (WEPA: an initiative of the Japanese Ministry of the Environment) is now calling for papers for the 2nd International WEPA Forum to be held 3-4 December in Beppu, Oita, Japan.
1st NEARGOOS-NOWPAP Training Course on Remote Sensing Data Analysis
The Special Monitoring and Coastal Environmental Assessment Regional Activity Centre (CEARAC), one of the four Regional Activity Centres (RACs) of the Northwest Pacific Action Plan (NOWPAP), will conduct an intensive training course on the remote sensing data analysis in the Northwest Pacific Region, at Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan from 3-7 September. The course will consist of lectures by specialists and hands-on practical sessions on analysis of satellite data. The course will provide an overview of remote sensing of ocean colour with special emphasis on applications of ocean colour relevant to the Northwest Pacific Region.
NOWPAP CEARAC Announces New Activities for 2008-2009
The 6th Focal Points Meeting of CEARAC (Coastal Environmental Assessment Regional Activity Center) of the Northwest Pacific Action Plan (NOWPAP) was held in Toyama, Japan on on 6-8 March. In conjunction with the Focal Points Meeting (FPM), the First Coastal Environmental Assessment Workshop was organized on 7 March.
NOWPAP Strengthens Links with Partners
NOWPAP has recently increased exchange with partners through participation in a number of international meetings and workshops.
USAID's SCOTIA Project Shares Lessons Learned
USAID's environmental project Sustainable Coastal Tourism in Asia (SCOTIA) - Philippines recently held its end-of-project conference to share best practices with local governments and resorts outside of its project sites. These project sites included leading coastal tourism destinations like El Nido, Panglao island, Mactan island, Balayan Bay, Moalboal and Puerto Galera.
One Third of Reef-building Corals Face Extinction
Arlington, VA – A third of reef-building corals around the world are threatened with extinction, according to the first-ever comprehensive global assessment to determine their conservation status. The study findings were published today by Science Express.
