The training is part of PEMSEA's strategic approach for ICM capacity development to place 20 percent of the region's coastline under an ICM program by 2015.The four-day training course was specifically designed: (1) to enhance the participants' knowledge and skills in the ICM concept, process and practices essential to ICM program implementation; and (2) to develop a core team of ICM trainers to ensure effective delivery of PEMSEA's ICM Model Course 1: Understanding ICM. The training course provided classroom sessions, field visits to ICM sites in Xiamen, and planning workshops for the participants. The Xiamen Regional ICM Train the Trainers (ToT) Course follows the earlier Regional ICM ToT Course conducted in 2008 in the Philippines, which resulted to the creation of five ICM Learning Centers in Cambodia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, as well as a pool of trainers who have conducted National ICM Training Courses in their respective countries.
