Asian regional workshop on forging regional partnerships in implementing UN SDG 14 and other related marine and coastal goals
The coasts and oceans of the Asian region faces continuing decline in the health of the marine ecosystems. The continued pressures from the unsustainable exploitation of marine resources, along with rapid population growth have grave consequences on the food and livelihood security of many coastal communities in Asia. Any gains in protecting parts of the regional seas are being undermined and exacerbated by the adverse impacts of climate change. For a couple of decades now, multilateral and bilateral collaboration has contributed to supporting the goals of sustainable development.

Aquatic Invasive Species and Ships’ biofouling
Shipping as a pathway for the transfer of invasive aquatic species (IAS) relates mainly to two vectors: ballast water and biofouling. Biofouling is the accumulation of aquatic organisms such as micro-organisms, plants and animals on surfaces and structures immersed in or exposed to the aquatic environment.

PEMSEA recognized for Integrated Coastal Management partnership with Cavite State University

During the Partners Night of the 117th founding anniversary of the Cavite State University (CvSU), one of the members of the PEMSEA Network of Learning Centers (PNLC), PEMSEA was awarded a certificate of recognition for their work on integrated coastal management (ICM). Other awardees included the Cavite PGENRO, as well as local government and business partners of CvSU.

Blue carbon, the carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems such as mangroves, seagrasses, and tidal marshes, is becoming an increasingly important subject in global consideration of climate change mitigation and adaptation. These highly productive ecosystems sequester carbon from the atmosphere, making them important natural carbon sinks.
