PEMSEA is pleased to announce the publication of our new paper: A review of intergovernmental collaboration in ecosystem-based governance of the large marine ecosystems of East Asia. Published in Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, it is part of a special issue titled: Large Marine Ecosystems of Asia: Assessment, Sustainability, and Management.

EAS Partnership Council welcomes new Chairs and Co-chairs

Surabaya, Indonesia – New East Asian Seas Partnership Council Executive Committee (EC) Chairs and Co-Chairs were sworn into office today during the 11th EAS Partnership Council Meeting held in Surabaya, Indonesia.
With the successful completion of their terms, Council Chair Dr. Antonio La Viña and Technical Session Chair Mr. Makoto Harunari handed over the chairmanship to their former council co-chairs. Mr. Arief Yuwono, Adviser for Energy to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia, took an oath to become the new Partnership Council Chair.

Partnership Council sets course for future actions

New report highlights EAS experiences in blue economy investment

A new report released today by PEMSEA highlights lessons learned and provides recommendations for the application of blue economy investment towards the sustainable development of the East Asian Seas (EAS) region.
The report, “Enabling Blue Economy Investment for Sustainable Development in the Seas of East Asia”, recognizes the importance of exploring new solutions, through financing and investment, to reverse the rapid deterioration of ocean health and pursue the long-term health and sustainability of East Asia’s shared seas.

Xiamen Municipal Government receives PEMSEA Leadership Award

PEMSEA has conferred Xiamen Municipal Government with the Leadership Award in recognition of its valuable contribution in upholding the mission and vision of the PEMSEA Network of Local Governments for Sustainable Coastal Development (PNLG) and implementing the integrated coastal management (ICM) ICM approach for the past 25 years.
During the 2019 PNLG General Assembly held 1 November in PR China, PEMSEA Chair Emeritus Dr. Chua Thia-Eng handed over the award to Xiamen Municipal Vice Mayor Mr. Zhang Yigong.

First Sustainable Coastal Development Study Tour held in Xiamen
