A celebration of achievement

 

The target of planting 80,000 coral fragments in Thailand has been achieved, a decade after its initial launch. To mark the achievement of this goal, a celebratory event was held in Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World, on 26 April 2019.

 

 

In this year’s World Oceans Day, we explore gender equality in ocean related activities.

PEMSEA is pleased to announce the official appointment of Ms. Nancy Bermas as the new Project Manager for the GEF/UNDP Project on Scaling Up the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA) and the Chief Technical Adviser of the PEMSEA Resource Facility, effective 1 July 2019.

PEMSEA is pleased to announce the publication of our new paper: A review of intergovernmental collaboration in ecosystem-based governance of the large marine ecosystems of East Asia. Published in Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, it is part of a special issue titled: Large Marine Ecosystems of Asia: Assessment, Sustainability, and Management.

Surabaya, Indonesia – New East Asian Seas Partnership Council Executive Committee (EC) Chairs and Co-Chairs were sworn into office today during the 11th EAS Partnership Council Meeting held in Surabaya, Indonesia.

 

With the successful completion of their terms, Council Chair Dr. Antonio La Viña and Technical Session Chair Mr. Makoto Harunari handed over the chairmanship to their former council co-chairs. Mr. Arief Yuwono, Adviser for Energy to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia, took an oath to become the new Partnership Council Chair.

 

Representatives from PEMSEA country partners, non-country partners and other collaborators gathered at the 11th East Asian Seas (EAS) Partnership Council Meeting held from 24-26 July in Surabaya, Indonesia, to discuss and review PEMSEA’s body of work in support of the region’s common vision of sustainable development of the Seas of East Asia.

 

 

The PEMSEA Network of Local Governments (PNLG) brings together sustainability-minded local governments from throughout the region, allowing them to share knowledge and experience, enhance their local capacity, strengthen multi-stakeholder engagement, and cooperate with each other. Using and enhancing integrated coastal management (ICM) throughout all levels of government along our coastlines contributes greatly to ensuring a sustainable future for the seas of East Asia.
