One of the key activities to commemorate PEMSEA's 30th anniversary, the EAS Partnership Council launched the search for Humans of East ASIAN Seas (EAS). The Humans of EAS honors and celebrates the work of local coastal and marine champions from among the many local personalities and partners in the last 30 years of collaborative actions to bring about transformational change in the EAS region.

Dongying, a city located at the estuary of the Yellow River with a population of over 2.2 million people, has worked to maintain a balance between its existing and future industrial plans with increased attention to environmental imperatives. The city is part of a large urban network major cities in Shandong province, which links to further cities including the national capital of Beijing.

Mariveles, a coastal municipality in the province of Bataan, is located around Mariveles Bay at the southern tip of the Bataan Peninsula. It has the longest coastline in the area, stretching 60.303 km.

 

For more than two decades, Bataan province’s Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) program has been a successful approach to fostering sustainable development in the coastal areas of the peninsula, and ensuring local communities are empowered to take informed decisions.
