Capturing regional efforts in oceans and coasts through the SEA Knowledge Bank

PEMSEA is excited to share the Seas of East Asia Knowledge Bank, which was developed as a regional knowledge hub for coastal and ocean governance and the blue economy. With the objective of improving knowledge sharing among stakeholders in the region and fellow advocates working towards healthy coasts and oceans, the SEA Knowledge Bank is home to a host of products and services, such as: an e-library containing technical references and reports, case studies, best practices, legislations, guides, manuals, and tools; materials and training courses for capacity development; information and guidance on State of the Coasts reporting and ocean investments; and many more.

One of the most notable features of the SEA Knowledge Bank is the PEMSEA Network of Local Governments (PNLG) Tracking System that is designed to capture and consolidate the 50 PNLG members' achievements in implementing programs related to SDG targets 6, 11, 13 and 14. Members are encouraged to input their province/municipality/city/project profile, baseline figures relevant to their chosen SDG targets, plans to achieve these, and their annual progress. Visit this link to view a completed profile by the Province of Guimaras in the Philippines for SDG target 14.1.

A latest addition to SEAKB is an interactive map intended to capture all ocean and coastal management efforts in the Seas of East Asia. Currently, the map contains PEMSEA’s work in integrated coastal management across 13 countries and features the members of PEMSEA’s Network of Local Governments and Network of Learning Centers across the region. As SEAKB was intended as a regional hub, it is hoped that the platform will eventually capture all the efforts in the region with the collaboration of other organizations in the field. In addition, the interactive map also allows users to easily search for references on ICM, climate change adaptation, ocean governance, blue economy, pollution reduction, and sustainable fisheries to name a few.
